Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lavished praise on Lionel Messi, labelling the Argentine superstar as the greatest footballer of his lifetime.

Lionel Messi recently led Argentina to FIFA World Cup 2022 glory as the 35-year-old won finally lifted the one trophy that had eluded him until then in his trophy-laden career. Lionel Messi was sensational for Argentina at FIFA World Cup 2022 and won the Golden Ball for his performances in Qatar.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 title win with Argentina has further strengthened Lionel Messi’s stake for claim as the greatest footballer of all time, and Jurgen Klopp says the Argentine is the greatest footballer in his lifetime.

Speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s first Premier League match post the winter break, Jurgen Klopp said Argentina deserved to win the FIFA World Cup 2022 title.

Liverpool’s manager also heaped praise on Lionel Messi, who he said was a joy to watch. “The greatest footballer in my lifetime, Lionel Messi, the way he plays football at this age should give us all a hint at how long footballers can perform at the top level. We shouldn’t close the books too early. It was a joy to watch him,” Jurgen Klopp said.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will take on Aston Villa in an away fixture in their Premier League game after the winter break. The Merseyside outfit currently sits sixth in the Premier League points table.

The Reds have 22 points from 14 matches in the Premier League in the ongoing 22/23 season.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are 15 points behind table-toppers Arsenal, who have earned 37 points from 14 matches.
