PSG News: Thierry Henry Defends Kylian Mbappe After On-Pitch Sulk vs Montpellier
PSG news: Thierry Henry has jumped into the defense of Kylian Mbappe after the latter landed in criticism for sulking during Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 match against Montpellier.
The Frenchman had missed a penalty in the first half and was visibly frustrated when Vitinha snubbed him for a pass later that game. Vitinha had Messi and Mbappe as passing options, and the Portuguese chose to play the ball to the Argentine. Mbappe then stopped running and turned his back on the play.
Mbappe, though, would eventually find the back of the net, scoring a goal in the 69th minute to make it 4-1 for PSG. The defending Ligue 1 champions won the game 5-2.
The Parisians had also registered an emphatic win in their first league game of the 22/23 campaign, defeating Clermont Foot 5-0.
Henry said Mbappe has nothing to prove to anyone. He added that PSG head coach Christophe Galtier must find a way to play Mbappe, Messi, and Neymar together and make all three happy.
Henry added: “The coach will have to find a way to play the three [Messi, Neymar, Mbappe] and make them happy…good luck.
“At PSG, there is always a debate, a problem. They won 5-2 and we’re talking about Mbappe. Last year, it was Neymar and it will always be like that, it’s PSG.”
Meanwhile, Mbappe has come into the new season on the back of a stellar campaign for PSG last season. Mbappe was PSG’s best player last season, scoring 39 goals from 46 appearances.
The 23-year-old also provided 26 assists for PSG last season. He has also been included in the 30-man shortlist France Football announced for the 2022 Ballon d’Or.
Despite missing the spot kick, Mbappe has started the new season with a goal. He had missed PSG’s Ligue 1 22/23 season opener vs Clermont Foot due to injury. He returned to the starting XI against Montpellier and bagged a goal.
