Real Madrid News: Carlo Ancelotti Addresses Marco Asensio’s Los Blancos Future
Real Madrid news: Carlo Ancelotti has addressed Marco Asensio’s future at Los Blancos.
Asensio has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid and has not featured in the two matches Los Blancos have played so far this season.
Ancelotti did include him in the squad for the UEFA Super Cup final vs Eintracht Frankfurt and their La Liga 22/23 season opener vs Almeria. However, he was an unused substitute on both occasions.
Asensio has also not attracted as much transfer interest from elsewhere as he would have hoped for. His Real Madrid contract also expires next year, and the defending La Liga champions have not yet made an extension offer.
Ancelotti admitted anything can happen before the 2022 summer transfer window closes. He also stated Asensio remains an important player for Real Madrid and reminded me how good the Spanish international was last year.
He added: “We need to remember how good he was last year.“
“Anything can happen before August 31, but for now he is an important Real Madrid player.”
Real Madrid announced the signing of Asensio from Real Mallorca in December 2014. Asensio signed a six-year contract at Real Madrid and was loaned back to Mallorca for the rest of the season.
Real Madrid loaned Asensio to Espanyol the next season, and the Spaniard made 37 appearances for the club. Asensio made his Real Madrid debut in 2016, featuring against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup. He also scored a goal in that match.
Asensio has been playing for Real Madrid ever since. He has totaled 235 appearances for Real Madrid so far and is just a goal short of hitting a half-century in the number of goals scored for Los Blancos.
Asensio has won a number of titles with Real Madrid. He was in the Real Madrid squad that won the La Liga titles in the 2016-17, 2019-20, and 2021-22 seasons. He has also won the Champions League three times with Real Madrid, in 2016–17, 2017–18 & 2021–22 seasons. Asensio has also won UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup thrice each with Los Blancos. He has also tasted Supercopa de España success twice.
He last signed a contract extension with Real Madrid in 2017, putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.
